Called with urgent concern about our 2010 Ford Expedition an hour before close. We immediately drove to the shop. Friendly, knowledgeable, and genuine care for customers. Quick evaluation and honest quote. Was able to come up with a temp solution to help get us home. Followed-up with a phone call the next morning. Definitely recommend. Earned my trust for my daughter should she need mechanical help while at college.

Iowa City is really blessed to have a mechanic like Ghanim in their midst. Today at 4pm and 93⁰, I called Five Star Auto after my A/C stopped working. He told me I could come right in. I did a quick diagnostic in the parking lot and concluded I'd need a new compressor. Quoted me $900-$1000. Comparatively right down the middle on the cost of repair and he would start working on it now and have it back to me the next day. 45 min later he called me and wanted to try something that would cost me half that, and if it didn't work he would still only charged me the original price. Another 45 minutes went by and he called me again to tell me that he had purged and added some oil and recharged the system and it was ready to go. Now my truck's AC blows like the tundra and I couldn't be more pleased. I'll certainly be returning to Five Star Auto for all future mechanical needs

I had a great experience at Five Star Auto in Iowa City. The Owner was professional, honest, and took the time to explain the work my vehicle needed without any pressure. They provided a fair estimate and completed the repairs in a timely manner. The quality of the work was excellent, and my car is running much better. It's really nice to find an auto shop that values customer service and transparency. highly recommend.

I called here on a Sunday morning due to my car making a rubbing/grinding sound. The owner examined my car not even 20 minutes later and explained his assessment. He took the time to show me the parts that were malfunctioning and answered all my questions. He didn’t pressure the sale and even offered that I call back later if I wasn’t ready to fix. He fixed my pads/rotors by the end of the day and showed me my old pads/rotors, which helped me feel comfortable and at peace with my decision. In my opinion, 5 stars is an honest and reputable repair company with fair pricing. Will use again in the future, thanks again for the great service.

Ghanim is the real deal! Our son is attending UI from out of state. Had issues with a battery light and Ghanim got us in same day with only about 45 min notice. Quickly diagnosed. Ghanim was detailed, transparent and looked for ways to help keep repairs cost effective without sacrificing quality or effectiveness. Repair was completed within less than 24 hours and very fairly priced. If you’re looking for a local mechanic you can trust with jobs big or small, don’t think twice, call Five Stars today!
